Ghëddo came about by two friends Giovanni and Mattia exploring their love of Piedmont. Their name, in Piemontese dialect, translates to – The impetus, the personal style, the witty tone, the stamp of authenticity and audacity that a person, or a group of people can give to a certain action. After studying the Classics in Milan, Giovanni side stepped to more practical studies in Oenology.
He spent many years learning the ropes in France, Chile, and Australia before settling in Piedmont in 2013. Mattia is the business brain behind the operation. Together they own vineyards in La Morra and Roddino (60yo Dolcetto), in Bussia (vineyards shared with Domenico Clerico and Philline Isabelle), in the Roero and in the Tortona area. No chemical fertilizers are used, and organic practices are followed throughout the vineyards until they can be fully certified.
Well-connected in the region they are able to make their wine in the Domenico Clerico facility while they build their own winery, and the wines are aged in their cellar located in Monforte d’Alba.
They are very clear about the three main principles that guide their work: respect the vineyard, produce good wine, and have fun. This is a winery to watch!
