Formiche

Four friends—three winemakers and an agronomist—came together in Tuscany to form a shared dream, born out of their monthly gatherings filled with laughter, food, and blind wine tastings, where they rediscovered the rare and ancient grape variety – Ansonica. Historically planted along Tuscany’s coastal regions, Ansonica is a late-ripening white grape known for its rustic character, yet it beautifully captures the essence of the coastal terroir when given the proper care.

They found their vineyard in Capalbio, on the southern coast of Maremma, where old, neglected Ansonica vines—over 30 years old—sought new life. They carefully restored the vineyard by hand, working with sustainable practices and minimal intervention. The result is a wine that speaks of the land. Fermented naturally with no clarifications and minimal sulfur, this wine is a true reflection of their commitment to a hands-off approach, allowing a natural evolution in both the vineyard and cellar.

The name “Formiche,” meaning ants, reflects their cooperative spirit, inspired by the hard work and unity needed to create something great and long lasting.
