Scarbolo

Scarbolo is a true family affair currently managed by siblings Lara and Mattia Scarbolo. The estate was started by their father in 1982 with main objective of highlighting the unique quality of their vineyards. Located in the Grave region of Friuli the grapes grown are faithful to the traditions of their area with Pinot Grigio being their main focus.

They have built a new winery in Lauzacco, which has given them the much-needed space to focus on single plot expressions. Wines are aged in a mix of stainless steel, oak and concrete depending on the cuvee to highlight each wines unique character.

To honour the traditional Friulan style of Pinot Grigio, they make a ‘ramato’ wine, with a touch of skin contact resulting in coppery hues – not a rose or an orange wine. It is truly unique to Friuli.

Their further wines are: ‘Areore’, a typical co-fermented blend of Friuli, with Chardonnay, Tocai Friulano, and Sauvignon Blanc. ‘Salvadi’ a serious skin contact Pinot Grigio aged for 3 years prior to release. Finally, the ‘Mepari’ is their top cuvee, made from 25-year-old Pinot Grigio vines, resulting in a deep complex expression of the grape.
