Terenzuola
The vineyards of Terenzuola straddle the border between Liguria and Tuscany where they have been tended by the Giuliani family since the 1930s. It revives the old region of ‘Lunigiana’ which covered northern Tuscany and southern Liguria.
Only in 1993 did the current shape of the estate take place under the watchful eye of Ivan Giuliani. His focus has been to live in harmony with the land, to do so he has gradually converted all his vineyards to organic viticulture with full certification from the 2020 vintage.
This is Vermentino country, and his wines highlight the expressive nature of the grape. The ‘Vigne Basse’ is a beautifully classic expression of Vermentino with a lovely texture (thanks to a smart addition of Albarolla). ‘Cinque Terre’ comes mostly from an 80yo amphitheatre bush-trained vineyard.
The very rare red grape, Vermentino Nero was revived by Ivan and a couple of curious producers in the region, showing a crunchy yet structured character. His 100% Canaiolo ‘La Merla’ is a juicy red Tuscan, while the remarquable dessert wine ‘Sciacchetra’ is like biting a caramelised apricot.
